Wanjiru (Lead Consultant)

Wanjiru is passionate about Africa’s people and their potential to take charge of their own economic empowerment.  It is because of this that she made the decision to donate her time, money and skills to the prestigious Alliance Girls’ High School; the top rated public high school for girls in Eastern and central Africa where she is an alumnus.  Here she puts in every effort to mobilize old girls to come back to the school to help to mentor the students through their life at Alliance Girls’ High School and beyond in their careers and personal lives.

In 2008, the Ministry of Education appointed her to the board of governors at the school.  She therefore became and still remains the youngest member of the Board of Governors at Alliance. Wanjiru has for the last 10 years worked in both the profit and the not for profit sectors where she has been involved in the sectors of advertising and fundraising respectively.  In her career, Wanjiru developed a unique ability to see opportunity where none seemingly exist.  She is an organized, disciplined and self assured individual who is more than adequately skilled to work with you. Wanjiru has worked with the Nation Media Group (www.nationmedia.com) 2001 – 2007 as an employee in the advertising section and as a service provider in CSR initiatives.
While at the Nation, Wanjiru's job description entailed selling quality advertising airtime to Advertising Agencies and their clients. In this role, she worked with a team where together, they interpreted client briefs and provided critical advertising solutions which served to communicate to the client’s customers translating into huge sales. With targets of between Kshs. 10,000,000 to Kshs. 18,000,000 ($125,000 to $225,000) monthly, Wanjiru consistently surpassed her targets through long term partnerships delivered from quality and outstanding customer care. Wanjiru has the ability to develop deep relationships with customers, and manage profitable corporate accounts.

In 2007, Wanjiru began working with AMREF (www.amref.org) in a rather ambiguous environment. Despite that she rapidly found her feet within the organisation and established the corporate fund raising function and charted a course for herself. Off immediate note was her immediate work to create opportunities for fundraising partnerships with key Kenyan/East African corporate – Kenya Airways, the Serena Group, Nation Media and others. This was set as her goal for the first 6 months and it was accomplished.  In addition Wanjiru played one of the lead roles for the implementation of the AMREF 50th Anniversary Gala dinner, a high profile event that raised some Kshs 10 million for AMREF’s work. The gala dinner offered AMREF a tremendous opportunity to open doors with local small, medium and large corporate in CSR initiatives.
